Motor Crimes in the Big JP
Hiya again guys,
I've been looking at apartments and prices etc. and there's one thing that I need to ask after seeing the parking arrangements. How is Japan for car/motorbike theft? If I bought a nice bike and parked it outside - is it going to get stolen? I'm sure it's safer than Taiwan (don't even dream about leaving any bike bigger than a scooter outside overnight), but what are the crime rates like? |
*bump* Doesn't anyone have an answer to this??
|
It depends on so much. It's like asking about a safe place to park a bike in America.
Where are you planning to be? |
Not sure on an exact location yet, but somewhere around Nagoya~ maybe a little out of the city to save on living costs, while not being too far for the daily commute~
|
if you parked illegally chances are its going to be taken by the authorities, am not sure about crime rate on "bike-napping" ..

Vehicle theft is rare to non-existent. People here do lock up their bikes and scooters, but mainly to keep drunk salarymen from taking the wrong one by mistake (most bikes and scooters here look very similar).
A co-worker of mine left his wallet in the front basket of his bicycle outside his busy building overnight, it was still there the next morning. If you walk off and leave your car running in front of the 7 11 it'll likely sit there until it runs out of gas, no one will steal it. |
