american universities

what american based or english speaking universities are in Japan?

Hatredcopter 06-11-2008 04:33 AM

Why not just keep it in one thread, mate? You've got 3 different ones all asking about universities in Japan.

Anyway, Temple University in Japan is an extension of the Temple University in Philadelphia. Their classes are in English and its a pretty good university overall (very expensive though).

Sophia University and Keio University also teach classes in English. All three are in Tokyo and are pretty much your only options if you want an English curriculum. There is ICU as well, but I don't know that much about them.

I've looked at your other posts, and I would really recommend attending a university in America and taking a year-long study abroad program to Japan. Attending university in Japan is, IMO, a bigger hassle than it's worth - and that's coming from someone who has been very adamant about learning Japanese and living in Japan. Unless you went to Harvard or something, most businesses in Japan won't really care where you got your degree from if you got it abroad.

Waseda also teaches classes in english - as with Keio and Sophia the number of these classes is limited though (search for Waseda SILS or school of liberal arts).

Agreed about the exchange part.

Not at all..lol I received my Certificate of eligibility,I already passed the 2 entry exam +the one for foreigner but there still the exam in Japaneses...for next year.. and Im going to Japan this summer..Im not talking a single word in Japaneses but the contact in my university here said that my result was good enough so..

My Dad have a appartement in Tokyo and im going there in 1month.

(I finished my 2nd Yrs of University..)

Henbaka 06-11-2008 10:48 PM

While I'm not sure about how much truth he's talking, I know that todai accepts foreigners.

I know there's a guy that's going there now on exchange from the Royal institute of technology in Sweden. Apparently those two Univs. have an exchange program. So I guess other schools could have, too.

Seems very weird however that you would have gotten your CoE already? I'm starting introduction and classes in mid-september and won't get my CoE before mid-late August. Go figure.

For the CoE the immigration send me that in less than one month..
there a date on the CoE and I have to made my student visa starting to that date..

A question: If i have a Student visa..can i go out of Japan and get back?

Sure, as long as you aren't skipping classes to do it!

You can, but you must, MUST apply for a re-entry visa a couple weeks beforehand. It's an easy process and it will enable you to leave Japan and come back while on a student visa. If you don't get your re-entry visa, you'll be in a bit of a bind when you try to come back into Japan...

Ooook! thx Ok! but I must go to my Ambassy in Japan or to the Japanese Immigration?

Hatredcopter 06-12-2008 05:28 AM

It goes to the immigration office in your area.

Here's the official government page with the details for re-entry visas/permits: Application for Re-entry Permit
