Clinic for transsexual people in Tokyo

Hello there,

I'm currently living in Tokyo and I have been searching such clinic for a while without any results.
I'm suffering too much from my GID and wish to start a treatment.

Does someone know of such clinic in Tokyo area?

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but I don't know if Japan is as big on the whole transsexual thing as America is. You might have a hard time finding something like that. Your best bet would probably be to find a general therapist, and hope they have some experience with these issues or are a quick learner + very accepting

Good luck

Transsexuals, or "new-half"s as they are called in Japanese seem a lot more prevalent in Japan than in the US. There is no taboo about going to a new-half cabaret to see topless dance routines.

Here's a list:

surgery is called 性転換手術 or SRS手術

Hormone treatment is ホルモン療法

GID専門 is clinics that speicalise in GID

Good luck!

Well, I stand corrected. I thought the US was kinda the mecca for this... procedure, seeing as how we're obsessed with plastic surgery and stuff :)

Actually, I am not sure if you can get a sex-change in the US. I know a lot of people go to Thailand or Europe to do it.

That certainly is surprising.

I knew they Japan had a lot of crossdressers, but I had no clue they'd be fine with transexuality.

MMM, how lenient are they on homosexuality?

Yea you can but most doctors do it underground-ish ( I guess they don't need the publicity) I can tell you this much tho you'll have a hell of a time finding them!

Seriously? Wow, mind = blown.

Sexual ambiguity is much more tolerated. Like you said crossdressers are fairly well accepted, and there are many famous crossdressers and very effeminate stars who appear on variety shows.

I would say gays are in general, at least tolerated. There are gay clubs and bars, etc.

What about marriage? Is it allowed over there? Or is it the same as over here in the U.S.?

Good question. I have never heard of a gay marriage in Japan...people tend to keep quiet about homosexuality, so it wouldn't surprise me if gay couples didn't have the desire to out themselves with something like a marriage.

I could have sworn I saw somewhere in the media two Asian homosexual actresses were wed.

But, I don't remember what part of Asia they were from or where they were hitched at. I think they were B-rate celebrities though. :\

I would doubt they were from Japan.

Japanese famous people have an incredible relationship with the media. Scandals are exposed, (especially affairs) but famous people's private lives are mostly kept private.
