10 weeks in Japan
Konnichiwa
I'm a Swedish student at the university of Linköping and I've just been accepted to do a ten week of field practice period at Hanshin Jiriitsu no Ie, Japanese Cheshire Home. However I need a place to live and I'm wondering if any of you guys could give me any advice about how to find a place? And also, I was hoping I would be able to get myself a tatoo, japanese style, while in Japan but then I read that tatoos are not very popular. I guess this means there arent to many tatoo artists? Is it ok to have piercings? Would love some answers! :D |
In what city is the school located? If it's near Tokyo or another large metro area, housing should not be difficult to find, nor should it be very expensive. You can check first with Sakura House and see if they have anything available near your school.
As for tattoos, yes, they are frowned upon in Japan. Those with tattoos are associated with the lower/criminal levels of society. But tattoo parlors do exist. I believe I saw one in Asakusa just the other day when I was there shopping, if I'm not mistaken, it was near the Sakura hostel building, which would be convenient if you happened to be staying there. Otherwise, you can ask any Japanese who has a tattoo where he or she got it, and they'll probably be happy to tell you, as long at they aren't yakuza (who will probably sneer, call you a "baka gaijin", and walk away from you as though you were something the dog left on the floor). |
Well I am going to to my field practice in Takarazuka City. Know anything about that city? :P

I am very surprised to hear the school doesn't have housing already lined up for you. You should really ask the school what they recommend. |

Is the Osamu Tezuka museum in Takarazuka?

Thanks alot for the respons. Nice knowing it's a nice city :D |
Hey
Still haven't found a place to live for my trip to Takarazuka. However I did contact leopalace but in the respons I got they told me that I should contact them when I'm in Japan.
Since I have never been to Japan it feels kinda tricky not knowing if I got somewhere to live before I get there. Should I just try to find a place when I get there or should I keep on trying to find something before my trip? what do you guys think? |
