Actually, you can. The PS3 allows that.

If you get a US PS3, you`ll miss out on トロステ... One of the biggest reasons we bought a PS3 to begin with. :D

Really? I thought region codes were in effect. So Japanese PS3s play Region 1 titles?

PS3 games - yes. PS1/PS2, DVDs/Bluray - no.

This time around it looks like they didn`t region encode the games. They`re all region free as far as I know.

and is it true that games like mg4 and devil may cry 4 can be set to english even though you brought a japanese game?
