Snow in Japan

Hi guys, I wanted to know if snowing often in japan? I heared that in the north is only snow and that there is often snow in winter even in the south... is that true? =) Cause in germany there was last year nearly no snow it was that warm that the roofer could work through the winter (normally they stop work in winter and start again in springtime)

It really depends upon your location. In the north, there is usually significant amounts of snow. As you head further south it really starts to depend on the year. Where I live is pretty much in the middle and we will get years with a lot of snow and years without any at all. (The year before last, I believe, left us with tons of snow - but last year was virtually snow free. )

Japan is a very long and thin country stretching over quite a distance. There is a lot of variety in the average temperatures, level of snow, etc.

I have no idea but snow in japan would be my dream come true!! Mixed with rain of course.

The winters are cold and dry, the summer being the rainy season. It snows in most places in Japan in the winter, except, as Nyoryorin alludes to, places far to the south like Okinawa and southern islands.

No significant amount of snow in Tokyo in last 8 years.

can't wait till it starts snowing. *goes snowboarding in december*

in february there was quite alot of snow in kyoto, what i've heard it didn't snow that much normally...

when it comes to snow it is better to think in terms of pacific side and sea of japan side. it snows plenty on the sea of japan side while it snows less or not at all on the pacific side. however, the length of the winter is of course different between hyogo-ken and hokkaido for instance.

as any good rule there r of course exceptions. fukuoka doesn't get too much snow even though it is on the sea of japan side, while in morioka they get snow even it being on the pacific side.
