What do you LOVE about Japan?

Hope I'm posting this in the right section.

All of us on this site who have lived in or visited Japan can point to things that annoy us about Japan. But this thread is not about that, so please don't put any negative vibes on here. Tell us what you LOVE about Japan, even the little things.

I'll start. Free furniture and appliances! Everyone has something that is six months old and they want to replace, so as soon as you arrive in your neighborhood people are offering you kotatsu and coffee makers and rice cookers and zaisu and pots and pans and everything. All free!

Sangetsu 11-14-2008 01:46 PM

The people are interesting and polite. The food is good. The transportation system is efficient. There is lots of scenery and history to enjoy. Everyone at the 7-11 says "irashaimase" when come in, and "arigatou gozaimasu" when I leave.

It's new and facinating?

Because, like, seriously OMG, Southern California gets, like, really effin' annoying after a while you know?

Payne222 11-17-2008 12:19 AM

I like the culture, to a certain degree.
I also enjoy manga? Haha

And are you serious?
I really hope you're being sarcastic
with that remark,
because I really hate it when people
don't appreciate what they have and
where they're from.
That's terrible.

Aota 11-17-2008 12:52 AM

Festivals. :]

xYinniex 11-17-2008 01:01 AM

Takoyaki stands. 'nuff said.

Isn't it terrible when people use the things they buy with their hard earned money? We should all totally throw out our stuff when the newest, shiniest things come along.

Like I said, you can't comment about our country for another 4 years, Mr. Non Voter

yuko81 11-17-2008 01:46 AM

Many flowers open in the spring and traditional architecture and more...

kiyuga 11-17-2008 02:22 AM

The food, the cities, the arcitecture, about everything I guess..........

Wasabista 11-17-2008 03:42 AM

And hot springs! I just got back from Kusazu -- no rotenburo this time but a great natural hot spring bath. Rotenburo are the best though, especially in winter.

I have to agree...gotta love onsen! Japanese know how to relax in style :D

SakanaMidori 11-17-2008 03:59 AM

I must say, I love the way the language looks as well as sounds.

NightMikado 11-17-2008 04:15 AM

Everything???? lol

I know there stuff that people dislike about it but its hard for me to find anything i dislike (japan wise that is).

Food, cars, the night life, so on etc etc i could be here all night if i name everything.

Wasabista 11-17-2008 10:14 AM

I love the language, too. Because the Japanese frown on saying certain things directly, there's a playfulness about the language. You can put a sneaky little spin on a statement by using yakuza or Buddhist monk slang, a handy four-character phrase, or switching politeness levels momentarily. It's what makes speaking Japanese fun for me.

Asukachan 11-17-2008 10:22 AM

I like that Japan imorts alot of stuff but... omg I love everything. Like I even like the lot of study stuff because you get really smart =3. But the fashion, language, TV... culture :rheart:  Just everything!

NEXgreen 11-20-2008 04:57 AM

Great food. The timely train system. That it's different. All the gadgets. The low crime rate. Things like ebi-burgers that make even fast food interesting. And last but not least, karaoke.

joeyj 11-20-2008 04:58 AM

Food, Scenery, Technology, Bath Houses and most of the people are pretty nice :)

Arikado 11-20-2008 05:17 AM

I love the language, it's very cute in a lot of ways, like the origin of certain words and such. The writing is very distinct too ( Hiragana/katakana I mean. Kanji is Chinese...and it's a love/hate relationship ¦3 ). I also love Japan's ingenuity. They can make anything, and I mean anything more efficient or cooler, instantly. There are so many awesome subcultures too. And can't forget fashion... And I hope someday I can finally experience onsen. I've heard so much good stuff about it, it makes my head dizzy thinking about finally trying one, hahah.

charosian 11-21-2008 03:28 AM

I love the food, the nightlife and the girls.

I've always thought that Japan was the best place to live in the world... as long as you have money. :)

clairebear 12-05-2008 08:01 PM

Do some people actually think that all Japanese girls look like supermodels? lol. How can you love a country because of the female population?

aznvogue 12-05-2008 08:19 PM

The Food, some of the cultural virtues and my favorite- The women.:rheart:

aznvogue 12-05-2008 08:22 PM

Um, to each their own. My personal preference are Asian women. Everyone got different tastes.

Yeah, and I prefer Asian men - but I cant say I love a certain Asian country because of the men.

aznvogue 12-05-2008 08:35 PM

I think when a person also says they love asian women/men, they also have to like the culture they come from as well, its kinda like a given.
I wouldn't understand someone who liked the way a person looks but not appreciate where they come from either. So yeah, I see what your saying.

Cowabunga 12-05-2008 09:14 PM

Language, Culture, Technology.

Wasabista 12-06-2008 03:43 AM

I love Asian women too. Like 'em so much I married one!

Nothing odd about loving a country for its women, IMHO. After all a country is its people, and females are more than half the population in Japan.
