Send me your questions~

Howdy

My name is Colin. I made a topic a really long time ago ado about how at the time I was signing up to go to Japan as an exchange student. Well, I was accepted and am going in March :) Don't know where I'm going yet, though

Well, I've created a section on my blog where I'm basically collecting all of the general questions people want to have answered while I'm in Japan.

My blog's homepage
Mega List of Questions Page

Basically I want everyone to post any culture factoid related questions they have related to Japan. You can either post here on the forum or on my blog directly

Any questions at all (any. Heck, you can even just get creative)

I'm just gathering questions now so I have the most opportunities to be able to learn the answer to the questions. (For example, if someone were to send me a question right before i leave Japan next January asking me about some detail i was never paying attention for I wouldn't be able to answer their question because i wouldn't have the opportunity)

Examples of good random factoid-y questions:
What are the most common colors people seem to dye their hair?

Basically I just want to have a huge list of questions to be looking for. Stuff I wouldn't neccesarily look out for. It'll not only answer your questions but it'll make me more aware of the Japan around me

~Colin :)

Yea! I'm so happy for you! Congradulations! I am trying to be an exchange student to Japan this summer (still don't know if I'm accepted), and one of the most abstact things I've been asked to look for is people with "FREE HUGS" signs. Apparently that's popular. My friends want to know if I actually see anybody holding up one of those signs.

cridgit001 01-10-2009 02:29 AM

My question is, will they actually hug you?

Colin 01-10-2009 04:29 AM

From what I saw the free hugs Japan campaign was just a subsidery of the main "free hugs" video. Theres videos on youtube of many different countries.

But hey. What the heck. Why not. I'll look for people giving out free hugs :)
And yes, I'll see if they actually hug you lol

I'll do a new post in a bit about my whole exchange. I gotta go do something quick for now

I can answer that one for you:

Yes you can see people with free hug signs frequently in Harajuku and in Shibuya and yes they will hug you. But you might spend 2 weeks in Tokyo and not see anybody with a Free Hugs Sign, so even in Tokyo its a rather minor thing and people will still be suprised and stop to take pictures if they see "Free Hugs",
I tried it myself and it is alot of fun.
However, this "trend" didn“t start in Japan but in Australia. Search youtube for free hugs and the video with the most hits will show you the origins.
