Sorry Japan... off to Korea instead - 02-07-2009, 01:43 AM

Hey guys I made several threads here asking about work in Japan and it turns out I have completely changed my mind. I started really doing research about it and it is ridiculous the amount of start up money I would need to move there. First of all I barely have enough money for the flight, and I would also have to pay for several months of rent before I can even move into an apartment.

I decided to go to Korea because they pay for my flight and accommodation. It will be nice to actually save money every month and still be able to go out and not feel worried about being able to pay the bills.

What do you guys feel about my decision? I hope I won't regret it, but I must say I am feeling good about it right now.

Good luck! I don't know what to feel, but if pay is decent, and cost of living is lower than Japan, why not?

I think it just depends on the job you have. My job in Japan paid for business class tickets, half my housing, etc. and I was really overpaid for my lame qualifications at the time (just out of college). I don't think it's a "Japan" vs. "Korea" thing, but just what opportunities you found with what companies.

Congratulations! I have never been to Korea, and I hope you have a sweet time.

Thanks I think I made the right choice. I'll be able to save some money for grad school. Even if I end up hating it I only have to put up with it for 1 year. At least I'll still be able to go to Japan, hopefully even twice a year since I will be so close.

That's true. I had a friend doing the same thing I was, only in Taiwan, and he'd pop over to Japan for the weekends even, sometimes. The flights were real cheap.

What do you even know about either Korea or Japan?

That's a very subjective statement.

Good luck!

Japan is close by anyway so you can still visit there.

Likewise I plan to visit Korea while I'm in Japan.
