But they all have something going for them, or some kind of spark that would allow them to do the same in any other country (However I suspect it would be far more difficult to get a company to sponsor your Visa in America or Europe)

I don't, no. Not only because my experiences personally do not match yours (ie, when I break a rule, I get caught, immediately), but also because yours also do not match those of every other foreigner I know working in Japan. Those that have lied have been caught, those that have overstayed have been arrested, those that have followed the DOs and DON'Ts have led successful lives in Japan for as long as they wanted to do so.

So, I agree with the others, your advocacy, and make no bones about it because your language IS advocacy, that it is a good idea to use risky methods to perhaps, possibly, if the planets have aligned just right, and you're a scrappy enough young fellow, obtain employment in Japan and live successfully for as long as you wish to, is pretty dangerous to the majority of the members on this forum.

Teenagers have their own logic, and you are playing right into it. You have a responsibility to as an adult, as someone who is in a teaching career, and who does have life experience, to be clear that your results are not typical. Or even very likely. I am not saying to crush their dreams, after all, when I was 15, living in Japan WAS my dream. It's just that the dream needs to be tempered with an understanding of the work ethic involved in getting there.

Nobody is really lying here, and everyone has a valid point... So what's the argument about exactly?

Killyouself,

Alright you have posted this thread because you fill a need to. Why? MMM has posted sound advice about potential people who want to live in Japan. It's the safest way for people to go about there quest for Japan. The only people I could possible see any help for in your posts would be people who are financially sound and had 10 years of work experience, with knowledge on the country they're going to.

My fundamental question is why did you start this thread? I simply don't believe the reason being that there's "another way". Why would you try to undercut sound advice?

Also you have yet to answer my question on why I have been quoted. I'm a little loss on why, when you even took it out of context and didn't even finish the saying.

I think that we are worried, MMM and I as teachers perhaps, Nyororin as a parent perhaps (just a guess, not an assumption on my part), that teenagers being the way they are will use this as excuse to do something stupid. In truth, I am not arguing with Killyoself for his benefit, I don't think he can be convinced otherwise. The audience I am playing to is the high schoolers lurking in the thread. It is those individuals I wish to convince not to just up and move to Japan without following a clearly established set of steps.

I believe someone has gotten it right when it comes to why people are arguing against this (killyouself). Thus making this worthwhile for at least it convinces one person of the right way to do things, and not the reverse.

Might be different in the country or whatever though.

Sounds like Tokyo is on a different planet from the rest of the country. And I was no where near the country...about 10 minutes from Osaka station by train. I used to bring omiyage from America for my immediate neighbors when I went home and me and my downstairs neighbor got to be pretty good friends.

Privacy is a huge priority? Take a typical American to a public bath and tell me who is worried more about their privates.

In your experience no one gives a crap about each other. That's not my experience. I was here for the Great Hanshin Earthquake. Moments after it happened people were outside knocking on doors making sure neighbors (especially old people) were alright.

It does sound like Tokyo, mainly because half the people in Tokyo aren't from there, to them Tokyo is a foreign place, so nobody gives a crap about each other. However, Tokyo natives are as warm as their Osaka rivals, however, they have become a minority in their own city.\
