Allergy Medication

I believe this goes into this forum since it is a problem that has occured due to me living in Japan.

Right now it is a beautiful spring time in Tokyo and I am having allergies like no other. I've never had allergies before back in the States so I have no clue what to do. Normally I would take benedyrl but so far I haven't found any in Japan. So I was wondering, what medication/eyes drops are good for allergies that are Japanese brand that could just be bought at a Kutsuriya? Does anyone know when the allergy season stops? I'm completely unsure what's causing these allgergies now since I've never reacted to anything before. Plus prices are pretty high for medication so I don't want to buy anything that wouldn't be effective.

Thank You.

I suspect a cedar pollen allergy from the little information provided. My best recommendation would be a visit to a doctor. But in case you don't want to, the best you can do is to consult at a drugstore. I myself have no allergies, so I'm unfamiliar with any particular brand of medication.

There is, however, a Japanese pharmacist on JF and you may want to ask her what brands would be best for you. I'll PM you to inform you who that is and I'll also PM her about you.

Hi! I’m Yuri. I used to be a pharmacist. Still have the license.
You have itchy eyes, right? Not running nose? Do you have some other symptoms?
Do you take some other medicines?
You mean you are looking for eye drops for allergy?

It could be worse, you could be in the country where I am, surrounded by tens of thousands of cedar trees. Luckily the worst of the pollen should be gone by now, and your symptoms should begin to subside soon.

One of the locals told me to boil a certain type of mushroom (there are countless numbers of these mushrooms about now), and that eating the boiled mushrooms was a good remedy for allergies. So far I haven't tried it, as they are subsiding, but I may give it a try next spring.

I have heard* that the new stuff out that you rub on the inside of your nose is supposed to really help. Combined with a mask and you`re good to go.

*Via my husband. I have no allergies, so do not know personally.

That's called "coke". It helps you forget all your annoying symptoms. ;)

Wow, lots of replies.

@YuriTokoro - No I also have the runny nose, ichy throat, itchy eyes. I just wanted eye medication the most because it's been my eyes that have been bothering me the most. I figured it was allergies since it's been going on for two weeks now and it hasn't gone away. I was just looking for over the counter medication though.

I'll check out the other stuff that was recommended though.
