getting decent sources of protein in Japan
Hey guys, in the US i am an amateur MMA fighter, and am continuing to train while I am here in JAPAN.
for training, i need a decent source of protein, and a big one. in the states i just use whey protein, but I am having trouble finding it here. SO especially with weight training and strength and conditioning training oriented protein, does anyone have any good ideas of where to get some in regular foods, or stores in the Nagoya area that may sell whey? |
I don't have an answer for you at this moment, but I have a friend who has been bulking up. I'll ask him what he uses. I am nowhere near Nagoya though.

I'm no expert here but isn't egg high in protein?
Surely it wouldn't be difficult to find foods in Japan with high protein, or then again, simply buy the powdered stuff. |
Egg, meat, fish, milk, tofu and beans. All of these are comon to find in a japanese diet
|
ROFL! Most of the crap you bulk up on in the US was invented in Japan but then ripped off by many other companies.
You won't find it hard to get that stuff here unless you cant read kanji. |
Chanko nabe ;)

Be careful of eggs, there way to high in cholesterol to be eating them all the time. I believe though two an week (I could be wrong) is very healthy for you.
|
Whaaaaat! Don't disrespect the eggs of Japan. They are one of the highest quality egg producers in the world. I LOVE JP EGGS!!! pero pero pero!
|
Actually the cholesterol is only in the yolk. You can consume all the egg white desired without a cholesterol or fat issue. It is a main ingredient in protein shakes, providing more protein than the usual milk base. Its also what was prescribed by a nutritionist for weight gain in my teens.

Foods that are high in high-quality protein are common in the Japanese diet. Especially because of the fish and eggs that are used.
Salmon and tuna are high in this. I heard from a friend of mine that salmon also has the lowest concentration of mercure. So + 1 health powerrrrr! I work out too so I need high-quality proteines too. Fish, meat, eggs, whey and peanut butter suffice. Meat is a bit expensive in Japan, so I heard. |
