Quitting/Moving Jobs - What happens to my visa?

Hi,

I moved to Japan last year on a 3-year visa, and have 2 years left.

However I'm thinking of quitting my job or changing jobs at least.

Does anyone know what the standard situation is for working visas?
If I quit my job, do I have to go back home?
Can I stay till the end of my 3-year visa?

Is there somewhere I can look up more information about my situation?

Thanks,

Theo

You can stay until your visa expires. However, you'll have to inform immigration and your ward office of your change in status. You'll need to bring them a copy of the new contract from your new employer, as well as the usual sponsorhip form. The process is no more difficult than if you were moving to a new apartment more getting your visa renewed.

please be aware that you can only legally work within the same visa status without getting a new visa. this doesn't mean that it is impossible to get a different visa status.
