Question Leaving, re-entry and future naturalization - 11-27-2009, 03:08 PM

Does anyone know, if someone leaves Japan with a re-entry permit for less than 3 months, does this count against the 5 years required for naturalization or 10 years for permanent residency status?

It should not make a difference as "residence" doesn`t necessarily mean you need to be in the country constantly. Just that it is your residence.

In reality - if you`re leaving frequently, then they may be picky with it and hold it against you. An occasional vacation should be no issue though.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

Thanks Nyororin. I kind of suspected the same, but it's always nice to get a second opinion

Not planning on making lots of trips out the country, but it would be nice to be able to visit friends and family once a year.
