Osaka

Hi people,

Has arrived at Osaka, and will stay for months.
Just post to ask if somebody would like to explore this city together?
I live near Kitahama, near the station.

Cheers,

Hi,

I might be moving to Osaka for work in a month's time... Can I ask where you are from originally, and what your initial impressions of the city are?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi, I'm from China, and everything goes well here in Osaka till now!

I will possibly go back to China in Oct...

When will you be in Osaka?

DanRanger 09-02-2010 04:35 PM

I may be starting work in October. It's a 3-year contract though, so if everything goes smoothly I might be there for some time!

I will also be moving to Osaka shortly. I am from the states. I will be working on a 3 year contract. At this point I am just waiting for my work visa to begin work. I hope to be there in about 10 days or so, and I would like to explore the city on weekends at least.

Very cool - can I ask what sort of work you will be doing?

Ungarmax 09-02-2010 06:46 PM

I'll be doing some work for a patent law company as a computer engineer. I'm getting very excited/nervous about moving there very soon.

Sounds very familiar... I haven't actually been offered the job yet though! Hopefully I'll confirm things soon.

Ungarmax 09-02-2010 07:11 PM

Good luck with that! It seems that we may be meeting in the near future :)

DanRanger 09-02-2010 07:14 PM

Thanks! I got a load of information a few days ago, basically I've spent the week doing research. I now intend to confirm with the company today or tomorrow. What's your background in? What did you study?

Ungarmax 09-02-2010 07:31 PM

My background is in computer engineering. I attended a fairly prestigious university here in the states for that. I graduated this past May.

I got my offer for employment here late August, and now I am waiting for my visa to process. They said they wanted me to start on the 13th of September, but that is getting quite close and I've no word from them on the status of my visa.

chin 09-04-2010 03:30 PM

Hope you 2 come soon!

DanRanger 09-05-2010 08:45 PM

Yeah I do hope so! I've been told I will find out this week if they are going to progress with my job application.

Any update on the visa and stuff Ungarmax?

Unfortunately none whatsoever. I am going to email them soon to find out if they know anything at all. I did get a lot of work done this week in preparation though, I feel like I could go as soon as I am told now :D

I found out about all my visa stuff, I am set to be there before the end of September! How about you DanRanger, have you heard anything from them?

Found out yesterday that I didn't get the job. A bit of a blow considering the time I spent on research and making the decision to go to Japan. I guess my background wasn't exactly what they were looking for, it was more software/AI stuff that I did at uni, so I always had an inkling that it was an issue. Still, hopefully a similar opportunity emerges in future.

That's good to hear about you getting things sorted out, end of September is not far away! I hope you are (somewhat) prepared. It would be interesting to hear what it's like when you get over there.

Best of luck,

Dan
