What Do Young Japanese Women Find Embarrassing?
Hazukashii - meaning ashamed, self-conscious or embarrassed - is often among the first words that new learners of the Japanese language encounter. What situations are most likely to make a female Japanese office worker in her 20s blush with humiliation?
One item, 9th on the list, raised the colloquial term hanketsu, literally "half ass" -- the portion of the anatomy exposed when a gal wears low-rise blue jeans. 94.7% of respondents said they felt embarrassed if low jeans revealed that they were wearing beige panties. As opposed, to only 84.3% who felt embarrassed if said jeans exposed a thong underneath. The discovery of stocking runs embarrassed 69% of Japanese girls; finding a male walking beneath them on a stairway while wearing a miniskirt garnered 65.7%, while 65.3% said they would be embarrassed if they purchased new clothing and showed up at the office to find a coworker wearing an identical outfit. Sounds a lot like what North American women would find embarassing, too.

The odd thing is, certain things don't embarrass American women.
I how ever just get embarrassed about every little thing, so don't count me in that statistic. ^^ |
I heard they have pills in Japan to stop your shit smelling xD

I get embarrased easily too. I would get embarrased if my panties would show or if someone had the same clothing as I do. Just like I get embarrased if someone sees me alone, or if someone sees me crying, or if someone sees me eating chips. Things that make me feel like someone is watching me makes me feel uncomfortale and embarrased. My friends say that I think too much what other peoples think. I think it is true.

I'd heard that Japanese women would flush the toilet repeatedly to hide the noises of their bodily functions in public restrooms.
The problem was so severe that high-tech toilet makers began installing a noise making function that would mimic the flushing sound so that women would stop wasting all that water. I thought this had to be exaggerated. Maybe a few neurotic Japanese women did this but surely most ladies were more secure. I work as an ALT at three different schools. 2 elementary schools and 1 junior high. I am the ONLY female teacher that does not flush the toilet to mask body sounds. EVERY other teacher does. EVERY ONE. gaijzilla.com |
