Japanese Tanabata Festival - July 7th
Today, July 7th, is the Tanabata Japanese star festival. If you walk around Tokyo or other Japanese cities today, you will see a lot of bamboo stalks or other tree branches with colorful streamers and lots of little message, which are wishes, written by Japanese people. Here is an example:
![]() At the end of the festival, they are supposed to float the wishes down a river or burn them. In some places they have big festivals with huge decorations and other events. That sure brings back memories......
I used to stay in a town called Hiratsuka, a place where Tanabata is celebrated on a big scale. I enjoyed that and how I wish I'm back there..... |
