Well me and a friend of mine, is going to Kyoto this october =3 yay!
And i just wanted to know if anyone here has any tips on where you can meet ppl on the net. Would be nice to haev someone to meet up with once we get there. And someone who might be able to help us, with where it`s ok to live, stuff like that ^^

To do that, wouldn't you have to get a permanent residency or something since you wouldn't be working through a company in Japan?

I would love to get one but as i have read its gonna take time.:confused:

I know I'm jumping in a bit late to the board but, I'm in Japan, I'm staying with a Friend in Soga but I need to find a job, and I've done the whole "Teaching English thing"
(At NOVA, HAHAHAHAHA if you watch Japanese news, you'll get the joke)

I totally understand the whole "Work at english school, don't learn Japanese" problem, I've been here for over a year and I've never really had the oppertunity to speak much outside of restaraunt situations, (So I can do that but ask me about anything else and I'm boned)

What kind of Job can I get where I'm not sucked into that english monotony. Albit, my Japanese isn't that good.

(By the by if anyone want's to help me with my Japanese I'd be so happy ^_^ it be better face to face since online I'll use my dictonaries and cheat so hard. I'm staying with a friend in Chiba-ken, Soga-Cho anyone live near there?)

1. What, besides teaching English, do you have in your skill set? What can you do?

2. Which skill(s) would make a prospective employer want to hire you, with less than fluent Japanese and (I'm guessing) a work visa requirement, over a native Japanese?

Whatever the answer to those two questions, that's the route you should pursue. If nothing comes of it, you might find that anything besides teaching English will earn you less than you made as a teacher, possibly quite a bit more. If that's the case, I'd recommend sticking with English teaching until you build up your Japanese and other skill sets. Someone else may have a different take though.

Hi i'm new-ish here, I stumbled upon this website a couple months ago and read every single post of this thread (yes all 55 pages of it). It's not till now that i decieded to join. As i was reading through some of the post I read that a poster could get a plane ticket for $200 from Los Angeles to Tokyo on a good day. I just wanted to know is there a site?
So any of you know any great airfare deals out there or a really good website?

As for fingerprinting people coming into Japan. I heard this was due to hostilities between the US and Japans opposition to the war. So in the near future you might have to get your photo and fingerprint taken to go to Japan. Personally I don't think it's right. I mean i've never commited a crime but if that's the price to pay to visit then oh well.

I never did anything wrong, so giving my fingerprint is no big deal to me. If it helps find criminals, then lets do it.

I've never heard of a fare as low as $200... the lowest I've seen has been $500-600.
