Nyororin is an exception to the rule, a very rare case. Don't think you'll easily be able to duplicate what she did.

Also, if you stay for the 3 years like you wanted, you'll be even more attached to the people and places and then you'll have to leave. Or do you plan on getting married while you are there like Nyororin did, in order to stay permanently?

Also - I didn`t just move over here out of the blue. My first trip was 3 months, and it wasn`t living alone (homestay).

If you`re 14, it`s going to be pretty much impossible to find anywhere that will even let you come for a full year - let alone 3. Your best bet for long term is to go with some sort of high school exchange program for a year when you`re 16 to 18. (The seemingly normal range for it) And then work toward university, which will allow you to extend your time.

The big thing is money, as you have to have all school fees plus living costs BEFORE you start. You can`t work and earn it while you`re here.

Nyororin, You seem to have gone through some tough times. I would like to say well done for the amount of effort you put in even without the support of your family. I am really pleased things worked out for you. :). I feel more motivated now.

If I do go to Japan, I can't imagine staying there for longer than two years though. I would miss my own country, family/friends too much. If people have little attachment to where they come from, then relocating to another country is not too bad. The longest I had been out of the UK in the past was for around six months, I enjoyed my time abroad... but I still remember missing everyone loads.
