I lived in Japan30 years ago-loved it(see p 93)-looking for someone to help me acheive my dream of having another black Japanese bobtail male cat-is JAWS still the humane society there-is there any chance I can get some assistance?
Also to share experiences of life in Tokyo-I loved it and still want to return again.
It is next to impossible to find the true type bobtail here.

I'm probably going to visit Japan in a few years after my army service (while I'm still young and stuff). Might just want to visit for a day or something and see how your life is over there Nyororin. :P

I was thinking of going to colledge when I graduate High school and go to colledge for one year then finish it in Japan is that a good idea?

There are multiple litters of kittens, including several black bobtails, living around this area - I could put on some gloves and catch one. :P My own cats are technically bobtails, but their tails grew - unlike their siblings (who unfortunately didn`t survive long enough to be rescued).

Really, the biggest problem is getting the cat ready to send overseas. Even if it already has vaccinations, there is a lot of paperwork and time that is required... And it would be a huge pain bringing an extra cat into my home temporarily. Especially as sending a kitten is highly discouraged due to stress.

There is a cute black bobtail eating outside right now named "Kuro-Goma"
But catching him and sending him to America seems a bit odd? He seems really content right now...?

I never been in Japan. But i would like to visit this country. Also I would like to meet on this forum pretty, kindhearted, romantic girl for friendship.

After reading through 94 pages of this thread X.X I feel alot more edumicated. =D I have a few questions though:

1. I'm starting to actually look at my Japan travel dreams alot more seriously. If I take a 1year Japanese course study abroad program, am I allowed to work at all? if not how much money should I save up for food and stuff? (I was told food isnt provided)

2. When are the JLPT's and does it cost money to take them?

3. exactly how bad are the summers? I live in Northernish NJ and sometimes the heat can be kinda brutal. I have Asthma. Will it be a big problem for me? Like before my body adapts to the new climat. (spelling?)

4. How exactly do Study abroad programs work? I go to class then what? Will I have free time to explore and practise my communication and street smarts? (getting around, directions, metro system ect)

5. would a Bike be a good investment?

You might be allowed to work a few hours, but more likely you won`t be. It`s a case by case thing, and permission is granted by the school.
Either way - you are going to need a set amount of money in order to obtain your visa anyway. Last time I looked into it, I believe it was 600,000yen for a year. It`s basically to prove that you have the resources available to house and feed yourself without resorting to illegal methods (like working against the rules of your visa, etc). Even if you don`t touch any of that money, you still have to present evidence of having it in an easily accessible location (like a bank account in your name.)

Japan is a long and thin country, stretching from quite far north to quite far south. WHERE in Japan is going to make a huge difference in the weather you encounter.

I seriously doubt they keep you locked up 24/7 - it would completely defeat the purpose of being in Japan.
I imagine it varies between programs, but most likely it would be like attending a school in the US. You have classes through the morning and afternoon, and free time afterward. Although with a program, it`s my understanding that there are a lot of activities and field trips taking place after classes.

If you live in a big city, YES YES YES.
If you`re going to be out in the middle of nowhere, it depends.
