Osaka or Tokyo
Which city would you prefer to live in for one year? and why?
|
I prefer Tokyo because all of my friends live there

Depends what you want...
Personally, after working in Shinjuku for 6 months, I would rather go to Osaka. Tokyo isn't really that different from any other capital city that I have visited... it is just busy, dirty and smells a little funky lol |

However, it is within easy reach of Hiroshima, Kyoto etc. so there is a lot there! If you like shopping or clubbing, Tokyo is probably going to win hands down... whilst clubbing isn't a patch on what I was used to back in England, Tokyo seems to be the only place in the country where clubs actually exist (there is NOTHING in Yokohama, which is shocking!) |
Neither.
Seriously, I don`t see why people limit themselves to big cities like this. |

Tokyo because I love to be around big buildings with shops and stuff to do. Not that Osaka couldn't be fun it just I know more about Tokyo then Osaka.
|
I would have to go 4 Tokyo....but once you get older I would hav 2 say Osaka prolly more fresh air anyway, lol:cool:
|
I voted for Tokyo, but it would probably honestly be Osaka. My grandfather was stationed over there during the Vietnam War, so it holds a lot of historical value.
|
really its going to be tokyo because i dont know much about osaka but i do plan on visiting osaka as well
|
Neither. I want to live in a city that is a little smaller than Tokyo.
|
OSAKA, because the food is notorious for being FAB and the people are friendly and it's just a cool place.
|
both? =D cuz im greedy.
|
Hmm... I haven't been to Osaka yet but I wouldn't mind going there. ^_^ But i also like Tokyo because thats where I can get my Visual Kei clothes. I can't decide. XD
|
I would love to go to either but Tokyo has a lot more going on! SHOPPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WEWT!!
|
I agree but it HAS to be Visual Kei clothes. I'm not a plain person. XD
|
I've never been to Japan though...I'll look them up and order some.
|
well obviously visual kei can be found almost anywhere in tokyo, shibuya, shinjuku, harajuku, meguro, etc..basically anywhere btw if ur into high end visual kei clothes.
When i say high end, i mean like 600 usd for a pair of jeans DIET BUTCHER SLIM SKIN - diet butcher slim skin |

Oh, and it strikes me as a little strange how people say they want to live in Japan but don't know anything about Osaka... it's not exactly a small place hahaha!
|
OSAKA.. i have live in both cities and I still prefer Osaka.. heck Ive lived here now for more than 3 years :D
as the others said, it will really depend upon your preference, like a friend of mine who can't stand osaka because the night life is boring |

osaka!!! woot! :D
|
I lived just south of Osaka for 2 years and I visited Tokyo. I much prefer Osaka. It is surrounded by many more historical and natural places, while Tokyo is just more and more city, as far as the eye can see. Plus Osaka people are friendlier and the food is better.
|
i think i would have to say osaka. great food, accent and ppl. a lot of my family live there as well

Tokyo- night life is crazy, all my friends are there, alot of famous bboys dance at Shinjuku and Mizo, has great shopping, a lot fun festivals close by, all my major hang out spots are within 5-15 minutes away from each other, randomly get to see celebrities, and i get to show a lot of travelers around which always enjoy.

None: Kyoto :mtongue: Never been to Japan but I have read some awsome books set in Kyoto and by the way it is described and basing my choice on photos, movies and people I know who have lived there, to me it sounds like the place to be.
Between Tokyo and Osaka I'd choose Tokyo (which is what I voted for) just because it is more turistic and I like big citties, but then again I may change my mind after visiting both places in detail. |

Dave Chapelle Some soccer players Paris Hilton *not really special in my book* Nathalie Keeley from Tokyo Drift *got my pic taken with her* Black eyes peas was at feria a few times Alicia keys and just bunch of randoms rappers also i always see people taking pics of famous japanese people but i never know who they are, i dont want enough Japanese tv or music videos to know |
Since my husband chose Tokyo, I'll have to go with Tokyo aswell, so we can be together. :mtongue:
|
I imagine Osaka being less...Tourist oriented, at least slightly. However, to make a third choice, I'd rather live in Kyoto :mtongue: . I've always wanted to visit a Shinto shrine and I've heard they have many in Kyoto, along with a lot of Buddhist Temples :vsign: I also hear the food is quite good ^_^

For those of you who chose Tokyo because you "prefer big cities", trust me. Osaka has over 2.5 million people, and is center of the Kansai metro area, which has nearly 20 million. Tokyo has a huge nightlife, but Osaka's is far from dead. There are all kinds of clubs, live houses and bars open all night long. Osaka (which I voted for) is very close to Kobe, Kyoto, and Nara and each city is worth spending time in and is unique in its own way. I chose Osaka for two main reasons. Kansai people are frendlier and more open, and I like the food in Kansai better than in Kanto. |
Osaka is near Nara? Cool. Thats another place that interested me, but to be honest I have no idea why...>_>. Sometimes its better to just follow your hunches I guess. Maybe its because I like Deer :vsign: .
Edit: Heres my reason for liking Nara YouTube - The bowing deer of Nara (Japan) Hehe ^_^ |

Osaka and Tokyo share a lot in common, but they have a totally different feeling. I'd personally choose Tokyo, which is #1 in my both lists "best cities I've ever seen" and "best cities I've ever lived in".
About Nara and Kyoto... they are great places, but IMHO only for a holiday! |
interesting views... though i must say, i get the impression that people that have been to both seem to prefer osaka... and it seems people that have been to neither seem to like tokyo!!! i guess i can see where that is coming from. Tokyo is advertised a lot more in foreign countries...

I do like both, don't get me wrong, but if you are talking about living somewhere, I think the two most important things are the people and the food, and Osaka wins in both departments. |
i think Tokyo because of the big city and all the store that they have to sale. wow. :)
