I have a 2 electrics and a classical, the classical is so much harder to play than the electrics. I'm horrible at fingerpicking, and the fretboard feels huge.

If you had practiced enough fingerpicking, you'd be good. It doesn't mean classical is harder.

Electric shredding is harder.

JayT 02-14-2010 06:11 PM

You can shred on classical's too, Malmsteen does.

Chon 02-14-2010 06:17 PM

I play guitar (since 3 years, almost all classical music, not the modern rock/pop/...music), piano (since I was 3 years old), contrabass & bass guitar (since 3-4 years?!).

winters 02-14-2010 08:40 PM

How old are you now?

iAnime 02-14-2010 10:24 PM

Hi all :vsign:

I enjoy playing many instruments, but not a master of any.

Piano, Drums, Bass, Guitar, Dirbanka ( Arabian percussion ), Oud ( Arabian ) looks like this

I'd like to learn to play many more, but not enough time !

Regards,
iAnime :ywave:

Nice Goldtop there dude. I always wanted one. Though I don't like those kind of acoustics. Jumbos are my favorites.

I got a crappy Epiphone Les Paul as of now (I think I posted a pic of it earlier here). I plan to buy either the Goldtop or a Supreme Heritage Cherry Sunburst.

Are you sure of that? I think he has shred classical music, not shred on a classical guitar.

JasonTakeshi 02-15-2010 12:27 AM

I used to play drums (not the shitty electronic ones). But not that much lately. (2 years experience on playing it)

Last one i purchased: Buy Yamaha Stage Custom Birch Shell Pack with 22" Bass Drum | Shell Packs | Musician's Friend

Either Yamaha or Ludwig for me.

SaintKat 02-15-2010 06:56 AM

Jeeze iAnime, that Oud looks awesome :D

redline 02-15-2010 08:20 AM

I've been playing guitar for about 2 years. I was thinking about picking me up a Dean Performer Tribal Cutaway acoustic-electric. Any opinions on it? While I'm at it, anybody got anything to say on the Laguna LE200?

Shredding doesn't mean just moving fingers fast. The notes need to be heard.

You're right, every single note was inaudible
The notes are indeed audible, and hes using all the shredding techniques like tremolo picking, sweeping and trills on a classical. Yeah you hear a lot of clicks due to the unique tonal qualities of the nylon strings. The fact that it sounds like shit to you is just a subjective thing, because it doesn't bother me nor does it bother all the other people viewing the performance.

Taking a violin and doing the same doesn't mean you can shred on it.

Shredding is a kind of playing for electric guitar.

Shredding is a kind of playing for faggots.

And btw, I play piano and guitar since someone (I don't even know who) was apparently wondering.

darksyndrem 02-15-2010 04:09 PM

Oh and I also play a bit of bass, which I actually have a picture for...

Sorry for the blur =/

I don't understand how the violin fits in to this, it is not a guitar. I do not see how that has anything to do with the conversation at all. Doing the same thing like what? Sweep picking on a violin? Didn't know you could do that.

I was giving an example. Sure you can sweep pick on a violin if you practice doing it, but no sound will come out of it. Same scenario with the classical guitar. You hear nothing out of it. How do you call shredding something you don't hear. Shredding doesn't mean just moving finger very fast across the fretboard, it means hitting notes very fast but they need to be audible.

So yeah, back to my point, you're not able to shred on a classical guitar.

That is the case when you only listen to Dragonforce. Go listen to real shredders like Steve Vai, Buckethead, Petrucci etc.

Violins were made to be played with a bow, classical guitars were not. The statement with the violin was pretty much useless. And no, you cannot sweep pick on a violin. Have you ever seen or tried to play a violin?

JayT 02-15-2010 04:36 PM

My name is Naomi and I have a bow in my hair

Trinket 02-15-2010 05:39 PM

^ Lol random

Anyway, I recently picked up sitar. :)

Oh lolz okay, well, I'm glad we agree on that. I never considered Steve Vai, or buckethead "shredders." Just because they're actually musical. I was referring to bands like Dragonforce, as you said. I'm just tired of kids obsessing over Children of Bodom -___-

I've seen and tried most common instruments.

And really? Jimmy Page used a bow even on guitars. And that worked, because it MADE a great sound, compared to shredding on classical ones, which is just 'clickclickclick'.

JayT 02-15-2010 06:31 PM

No mentions of Jason Becker or Paul Gilbert?

Chon 02-17-2010 10:30 PM

@ winters:
Sorry, so late... I'm 19.

mythai 02-18-2010 02:19 AM

Just started playing the guitar.

I second to this, Led Zep's guitarist is awesome, yep, bow on electric guitars work. :)

booiebee 03-19-2010 12:26 AM

I play an instrument

I play the bass clarinet in my HS band. I'm the best in my section!! (I'm the only bass clarinet we have:D) But i also play piano, flute and french horn.

flaresilhouette 03-22-2010 01:10 AM

I play the flute a little...I also like singing but most people told me that Im horrible.(No Hatsune Miku voice that's it :D )

diego187 03-31-2010 10:34 PM

I play the bass guitar, piano and sing screamo (if you could call that sing).

neoark400 04-01-2010 02:39 AM

Piano and Violin ^^
Anyone here want to gather a small group of music band or an orchestra?

Tsuwabuki 04-20-2010 08:20 AM

I play trombone and clarinet, and I sing. Although I do not sing very well, and not solo. I was a Music Ed major for two years, changed to English. I teach Trombone technique at one of the schools I also teach English at here in Japan.

hadron 04-20-2010 08:26 AM

i play classic guitar
Sör, Carrulli, Tarrega, Barios (not sure about spelling)
but only seasonal, when i get a taste for it

Maku 04-20-2010 12:53 PM

Acoustic and electric guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and vocals.

Kansai 05-01-2010 12:29 PM

I played violin for 5 years, currently play guitar, and will be learning piano next year. Can't wait! :)

seiki 05-01-2010 04:09 PM

Trombones ftw!

MeIsKevin 05-01-2010 06:27 PM

I play the piano and the guitar. But I have to say that piano is alot easier and funnier to play, in my opinion :p

nobora 05-01-2010 07:51 PM

I can't play any instruments right now but next school year I'm going to learn how to play piano.
