Need advice
 

Hello,
If this is the wrong forum please forgive me.
I'm currently working on a project. One of my side characters is from a small village, perferably on one of the small islands surrounding Japan. The village is meant to be poor, probally a fishing community and I'm asking for some help in that area. I want to portray a sense of realism so I'm asking for some suggestions as to which village would fit in with my character's backstory.

Any suggestions?

What kind of project is this? Is it set in modern times, the past or the future?

It WAS a short story that is developing beyond short lol...

Its sci-fi set a few years from now.
The character' s back story, a brother and a sister have influences over water and air and have been causing some strange weather anomalies.
