bikinis FTW! (hope that's acceptable here lol... shes not naked or anything...)

@MissMisa and Alexus - sorry I don't have time right now to do a proper critique of your stuff, I'll make sure I do later today! I'm liking what I see tho.

Hey don't worry about it, thanks a lot :)

I love your artwork style. I think her belly button may be a little too big and the bottom of her legs a little too thin, but I think that's part of the style you are going for and it doesn't look unbalanced or anything. Great work, great shading :)

@Misa: those wings made me remember Morrigan and there's a lot of photoshop in there. Hey Misa can you add screentones to the drawings using photoshop?
Yeah, first it was drawn by hand, then re-lined in Photoshop, and coloured in Photoshop. I could, but it's a lot easier to do screen tones in Manga Studio. But it's possible to do it in Photoshop by pasting and erasing tones.

Hey MissMisa!

well, main thing that I dislike about this picture isn't something that's wrong at all. Basically I think she's too overweight. There's obviously nothing wrong with that, and I don't know if that's what you were going for? But most people (including myself) find that unappealing. And appeal means a lot in art.

heres some tips: you can trace your character like I did there, so that you can see what the shape of the body looks like. With all the clothing and accessories on top it's sometimes hard to see if the anatomy is right or not. Once you are happy with the shape of the body, THEN move on to the clothes.

Balance! even when sitting down characters must be balanced. Your character is sitting right on the edge of the seat, and with her feet in the air like that, a lot of her weight is in front of her. She would probably fall off the chair if she sat like that.
so you can: move her back to the center of the seat, or move her legs so that her feet are on the floor. That way she has the support of being grounded.

hmmmm, that's about all I can think of really. Practice practice practice (I hate that saying, but it's true)

oh and sorry for always drawing these generic looking anime characters for the critiques lol, I can't help it, It's just my style.

EDIT: I couldn't draw wings if my life depended on it.

Thank you very much :) the thin legs are intentional, but the giant belly button wasn't. oops! thanks for pointing it out.

Hi alexus!

Did a two quick paintovers:

first pic, I realize that the hand was in perspective, but I think you pushed it way too far. That hand is huge! :mtongue:

For the creature design, I don't think I made it any better (tried to make it look like it was walking), but the way that right leg is bent... just bothers me. I honestly think it should be bent the same way as the other front leg.
I've seen bulldogs that have the same weird bending in their legs, but once again, I think this one was taken a little too far.

I love the design though, awesome stuff.
I don't see any problems with your other pictures. Great 3D scene btw.

you're a really talented artist, keep it up.

feel free to post more!

She's overweight? Really? I thought she was too skinny! You mean her legs or..? To be honest I can't really see what you mean by overweight. If you mean she's too curvy (large bust, large thighs) then yeah that's what I wanted ~

Thanks for the tips~ I can see that her legs are a bit strange on mine.

Also, moving her onto the seat would be really easy to do on Photoshop, so I'll take that route. I did think there was something wrong with it but that seems like an easy way to fix it, so thanks :)

Thanks for taking the time to critique my work~ ^_^

its not really overweight. just the stomach kinda makes a V shape. keep both the back and the stomach parallel to each other.

imo, yes she is overweight. She isn't FAT or anything, but I wouldn't call her skinny.

(please excuse the crappy 5 min sketches, proportion is off, I know)
see? she kinda looks more like the second one than the first, and the first is kinda the "average" weight. (or maybe that's just my warped idea of average). I don't know. But your typical anime girl would be even skinnier than the first picture.

Basically, your character has the clothes and the pose that indicates to me, that shes supposed to be sexy, but she doesn't really have the body for it IMO.

I just think that in general, anime tends to exaggerate women to make them look like super models, which I think is wrong, but like... it works right? Many female characters have that ideal body, built for the sole purpose of fanservice. It's kinda sad when you think about it, but that exaggerated sex appeal does sell.

Sweet, this is just what I was looking for:

(Hair like that on purpose, got lazy)

(Old project of mine, the text is a bit off since this was added when I was still 'weak' in Japanese)

Ah okay, I guess I can see what you are saying now, but personally I much prefer the second picture to the first one. The average woman is a UK size 14 which is bigger than the second image even. So yeah I'm fine with her being a bit more meaty than the average anime girl! She doesn't have cel shading or anime eyes so most people wouldn't call it anime style anyways.

I guess when I draw women they usually have more meat on them in some pictures, usually on the thighs and hips, in others they really aren't. I'll try and get more of a balance next time.

cool, that's good that you draw women with "more meat on them" lol. I just wanted to make sure you were aware that you were doing so.
