Help needed: What is this, please? -

Hello,
several years ago we rescued this from a house to be torn down. It was in a box that was shipped from Japan. Ever since we have been wondering what this is. It is very sturdy, and would withstand a fire from below. The forms looks like you could bake a clay tile???
