If you take 2 years of Japanese like a friend of mine did, you pick it up a lot easier when you actually go there.
I will have a maximum of 4 years worth of Japanese language study before I get there, so hopefully I will do okay.
Don't get paranoid about plane journeys.
If you feel insecure while on it, sleep.
That's my best advice.
