i never read the manga but i do know that it goes in it's own direction apart from anime, and so far Lau and Ranmau are still alive

I don't get that. You've never read the manga, but you like it better.
That's like my saying, I like Wheels on Meals (Jackie Chan film), because I saw one scene from it, even though I've never seen the entire movie.
Anyway, seems they were more so the "comic relief" anime wise, not so much manga wise.
Anyway, for the anime, it's been "original" for quite a bit of it. Everything involving Angela/Ash in general is anime original, which includes the stuff dealing with the Hell Hound, also original. The Curry thing is in the manga, but no one ended up possessed. The queen actually didn't keep herself covered up and spoke directly to everyone, not through a servant, while unveiled. All the stories past the Curry event have been anime originals. In the manga, Agni and the prince are still staying with Ciel.
