If you are considering purchasing a Japan Rail Pass...... just go to the following website and input the travel plans that you THINK you will have.... and the fares and train possibilities will be displayed. From that info, you can decide if a one week, two week, three week, or one of the regional only rail passes makes sense financially.
The JREast pass is a real bargain if you are not going west (south) of Tokyo.
