In the United states "fanny" is a cute way to refer to someones butt or a short term for a small bag you wear around your waist (a fanny-pack). My friend discovered in an embarrassing fashion that in the U.K. it's used to refer to um, lady parts. You sure don't want to keep your wallet in your fanny in the U.K.

That's true and also fag means gay in the US but in the UK some people say it as in a cigarette.
