I have so many favorite movies from Japan. If your into samurai films there are always the Kurosawa films, and also a slew of movies with Toshiro Mifune, and Nakadai Tatsuya. I see that many of them are covered in this thread. If you want something more modern I HIGHLY recommed "Twilight Samurai" and "The hidden blade". Your samurai experience will not be complete without these.

If your not in the mood for samurai films must watch films(in my opinion) are "The taste of Tea", and "Funky Forest". Wow they are weird, but so good. Also collection of short stories in "Tokyo!" are amazing too.
