ちゃ is a contraction of ては in the same way "n't" is a contraction in English of "not."

たべてはいけない becomes たべちゃいけない
Like
"does not" becomes "doesn't"

Relevant side note: では becomes じゃ in the same instances.

のんではいけない becomes のんじゃいけない

Or, the most famous (probably),
ではない becomes じゃない
