Man wants to marry an anime character - 11-05-2008, 09:07 AM

Quote:
A Japanese man has enlisted hundreds of people in a campaign to allow marriages between humans and cartoon characters, saying he feels more at ease in the "two-dimensional world".
Comic books are immensely popular in Japan, with some fictional characters becoming celebrities or even sex symbols. Marriage is meanwhile on the decline as many young Japanese find it difficult to find life partners.

Taichi Takashta launched an online petition aiming for one million signatures to present to the government to establish a law on marriages with cartoon characters.

Within a week he has gathered more than 1,000 signatures through the Internet.

"I am no longer interested in three dimensions. I would even like to become a resident of the two-dimensional world," he wrote.
It's rumored that the character he is attempting the marry is Mikuru from "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya." Not sure if this is true though.

Here is a website acticle on this.

So what are your thoughts on this? I think it's just....well weird and sad to be honest. I mean come on dude, get with reality. Got to give the man credit at least, hes not afraid to admit this.

In the shadows beneath the trees he waits.
In the darkness under the moon he plots
In the silence of the night he kills.

Marrying Anime - 11-05-2008, 01:32 PM

Well... that's a bit odd... I think it would probably get complicated because there is limited anime characters and sooo many "3 Dimensional" people. What if 5 people want to marry 1 anime character... whatever... I'm thinking he'll grow out of this strange faze and find a nice girl... gosh... but if he wnts to... It's not like I'm gonna stop him... like someone said before 'it's not like he's hurting anybody'... maybe himself...(cause you know anime character are just paint and paper in the end... can't really love back) I know I think some anime characters are pretty hot... but you say something like "I wish they were real." ...lol ... but... i would definately chose someone real (Like Wu Chun or Arron) over anime any day! yAY...LOL

To "grow out" of 3-D women, that guy is pretty lucky in a way I guess. I don't really have a standpoint on this, but I guess since he isn't hurting anyone it's OK. What if a character married is "dead" at the end of a series, or dies before the series is over though?

if he has a family, maybe his family will get 'hurt' from his action.. I believe there is no such thing as 'he does not hurt somebody..' term coz this is the term that the smokers usually use..

Who can you marry a fictional character, unless you are one? Because when you marry someone, that person as to say if she wants it or not...
