I think if you watch any of the many Detective Conan movies you might be pleased, even if you have not watched the tv series

Millennium Actress
Perfect Blue
Voices of a distant star - Which is technically a short movie/OVA but it's great

favorite 'The Lover Who Leapt Through Abstraction'! Person anime movie e'er. The happening was sad, tho. (Gallant departed was pretty sainted, also). Anyway, I also liked all 4 InuYasha movies, Howel's billowing residence (OMB, Howel!), Totoro, and fundamentally anything by Hayao Miyazaki.

Two months ago I saw Redline which was really cool. If you like it you might like Trava: Fist Planet which was the inspiration for Redline.

Summer Wars is awesome, and it was made by the same people who did The Girl That Leapt Through Time.

Suzumiya_Haruhi no Shoushitsu was also a good movie, but if you're not familiar with the ongoing anime series maybe you won't appreciate it as much. But Yeah you might check out the series Suzumiya Haruhi no Juutsu or The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2 seasons) incase you haven't seen it yet.
