Exhaustion gets the best of manga-ka - 04-27-2009, 10:38 PM

This is posted in full here: Canned Dogs

Kannagi author Takenashi Eri is still alive

Takenashi Eri has updated her site, which has not been updated since October, with a note about her long hiatus on Kannagi since November last year when she was hospitalized. She says she has already been discharged and now recuperating at home.

She doesn’t want to say what she is exactly down with as people might get even more worried about her condition, but she says that it was a major illness that came as a result of her pushing herself too much.
...
She is still trying her best to get her stamina back before continuing Kannagi again, as manga is all about stamina and if she tries to do it without being fully healthy it’ll just cause more problems again if she fails.

Sounds like a serious bout of depression from too high levels of stress...

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

The pressure to be creative and meet deadlines must be tough. I think people think being a movie star or musician is glamorous, but it is mostly very hard work. Being a manga-ka is just very hard work, even if you are successful, with very little of the glamour.

yea she did kannagi, which is an anime too, but only 13 eps......she did take the moon too

managa ka's do work hard...i saw a documentary about them a few years ago, they go literally days, sometime up to 3 or4 with out any kind of sleep, they have deadlines that most normal ppl wouldnt be able to keep. i can see how shes been exhausted...like playing football, no matter who you are, your going to get hurt at some point in your career...i bet if you ask any manga ka especially the more famous ones, theyll all tell you that they've been in her same situation before

but with hard work comes times where u can take a break

Dang, she needs to improve her time tables or take a break once in a while. I hate stories like this.

This doesn't surprise me. Art is a constant emotional struggle, something which never ends and you will always go round and round in circles to better yourself. Some artists are rarely ever satisfied with their work. It can be extremely frustrating to have an amazing idea in your mind but you just can't transfer it on to paper. Sometimes you go through reems until you are happy. And that's just normal artists, I can't begin to imagine what the pressure is like for pro's. They have their own pressure and outside pressure too.

Because they are writing for weekly and monthly magazines, some have to produce more than 20 finished pages a week...and there are no breaks. Weekly jump comes out every week (maybe a week off for Golden Week?)
