R.I.P. Carl Macek - 04-19-2010, 06:55 PM

This guy brought anime to America and the English-speaking world. 58 is too young to pass.

I had the pleasure of spending a weekend with him in 2003 when I worked Guest Relations at Anime Mid Atlantic. We spoke at length about the industry, where it was, where it was going, the Macross/Robotech debate, hatred of Minmay, and other things completely unrelated to anime or fandom.

He was a real genius, who got screwed over by the way shows had to be packaged and sold, and he did his best, even when fans hated him for it.

You will be missed, Carl. On Friday, when I can, I will raise a drink and toast you.

Darn, I hardly ever jump straight into subbed anime, so what this man did was . . .awsome! Rest in Peace, Thank You for Dubs.

Bless your soul . . . A true American!

My Life Sucks- The kids I babysit have drooled, ripped or drawn on all of the cards and put the cars with the little people in the microwave!

I have no Friends- The cats have scratched and destroyed all of the DVDs!

I always owe someone- In fact I put two os in it!

I always ruin my clothes with Bleach!- The show is so dom suspensful I spill my grape soda on them!

But . . .I'll live.

That's true. He shouldn't have died.

Well, 58 is relatively young by today's standards, however I have known quite a few people that have died in their early 60's to cancer.

What caused his death btw?
