The 24hr a day anime channels make it hard to do work lol...
Yeah that seems to be the way most people go as time passes. Everyone seems to have those series that they'll always hold onto. I'm probably along the lines of not seeing anything new for about 5 or 6 months, but I usually always fall back on my old reliable series.

Here in the UK we have NO anime on TV at ANY time of day, except for Pokemon on the kids channel! XD
I agree that it'd probably end up being a big distraction for anyone

But I get what you mean with individual styles. But I also think that you could look at it on a larger scale and say the whole medium of anime is a style.
You are agreeing, but I am disagreeing. Calling anime a "style" is like calling American comic books a style. There are rules, but within those rules are as many styles as there are artists.

I was surprised to learn that many Japanese look down on manga enthusiasts too.

Anyone who has an unhealthy obsession with anything is considered suspect.

In Japan it is very easy to have a niche hobby, and the culture supports that. However there is a difference between fan and fanatic.

I know what you're saying, but surely it can be looked at as drawing being the medium of storytelling, with the 'styles' being:

- Anime
- Western Cartoons
- Manga
- Comics
- Sketches/Storyboard
etc

And then after that the artists can make different sub-styles within those styles. That could be a way of viewing it anyway XD

Yeah, it's the same as people in Western countries mostly actually take pride in being called an Otaku!
It's like they don't even realise 'Otaku' is basically an insult in Japan!

i think if you are a true fan you will never grow out all of it.to me anime is like punk rock, boxing, and even surfing.if you don't get it,you never will.look at the great masters, they're in their 50s and 60s.people forget that they're artists dedicated to their art...and if everybody did it,it wouldn't be cool any more.

A bit late to the topic but...

I think people grow out of acting like overenthusiastic idiots about their interests or hobbies. No matter what the interest or hobby is, I think the majority of people you are going to encounter who act visibly like major fans, talk constantly about said interest, etc etc... Are going to be young, or at the very least quite immature.
As people get older the "world" sort of expands - additional interests and the maturity to match behavior to the audience develops. Not to mention life itself changes - as an independent adult it would be a bit hard to "live for anime" as it seems so many young fans do.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

These are different media, but take "western cartoons", there are tons of different styles. A Bugs Bunny cartoon looks very different from a 3D digitally animated Transformers cartoon. It's almost hard to put them in the same genre.

we are human beings who truly love to delight our eyes and our ears. we love to be entertained by those kind of mediums as long as they suit our demands. it is that simple.
