Can anyone tell me? - 01-23-2008, 08:14 AM

I'm a Japanese, and I'm learning English. I want to know about this; in Japanese we often say, for example, '' No.1 player'' to refer to ''the best player''. Is this usage and meaning of ''No.1'' is also correct and used commonly in English? I would appreciate it if anyone tells me about this

It actually depends in which context you use it. It can mean the same thing but it is not used commonly! It's best to stick to "the best player"..

Yeah when I hear 'number one player' I think the first before number two, not reallt that they are the best. I agree with noodle 'the best player' is the best option.

Too cool for a yellow emoticon

"Everyone else but <insert name> is a noob" Is also an acceptable way of wording that phrase with today's english.
