Power Plant in Space! - 09-03-2009, 06:40 AM

I saw this article today and found it pretty interesting. I think the idea itself is great, and if it works it will be even better. Even if it doesn't work perfectly I think innovations like this are great for the world. What do you guys think?

Japan to Spend $21,000,000,000 on a Power Plant in F%#king Space - Power plant in space - Gizmodo

What an epic waste of money.

The eternal Saint is calling, through the ages she has told. The ages have not listened; the will of faith has grown old…

For forever she will wander, for forever she withholds; the Demon King is on his way, you’d best not be learned untold…

Good lord, you're not kidding. Does Japan HONESTLY think now is the time to be dropping that kind of money on something that is, at this moment, nonessential? I know having a positive attitude is one way to help will away a recession, but this is a little too much.

Plus, doesn't this just sound like a precursor to a great big laser beam? I think if this thing flies, the whole world is screwed. Or will get cancer, like the site said.

You mean the "laser" beam like in Austin Power?

Well, maybe the point is that now's a pretty interesting choice of timing, what with the economy and all (geez, I'm so sick of that word...)

I agree it would be a fantastic thing and certainly improve the quality of life (and the... economy...) a hundredfold, but that kind of cash is hard to come by, perhaps...

Never said it was a bad idea. That was the other guy, remember? I think it's a good idea, but where's the money coming from, especially when it's badly needed elsewhere?
