Beware the apples

No seriously. NEVER forget to peel fruit and be strictly wary of watermelons unless you want a nice case of the Dheli belly.

Oh, and the ice. Big hotels, starbucks and such should be fine, but elsewhere can be dodgy. As Robinmask said, the risks are pretty proportional to how much you intend to rough it.

You are so lucky. I'll be living in India for a few years after I graduate. : ) I have quite a few friends from delhi so if you have any questions just ask! Good luck!

I haven't been to india myself, although some close friends have (hence the apple story!), but I roughed it out on a shoestring in S.E asia for 4 months and the health rules are pretty much the same. I can def. tell you what things I found useful to take and what was just a weight in the bag.

You'll expect to hear around 15 different Indian languages and English if you go on a train/bus trip. "South India" speaks very different languages compare to "North India" (Hindustani vs. Dravidian languages).
