Question Can someone translate this word from japanese to english, please ? - 06-24-2010, 10:32 PM

Ok, here's the thing. This is the link to japanese tea called matcha (抹茶)

Yamakaen Green Tea Powder Matcha Powder or Maccha - 100g - Japanese Food Shop UK - Japanese Kitchen

I recently bought one of these but there is one more japanese character, right before the ones that means matcha.

So i was wondering if this isnt some kind of low graded or something like that kind of matcha as I paid only 13 euro in my local asian shop.

When I looked at the other matcha's on the internet, there are only 2 japanese characters on the box --> 抹茶

Can someone translate the third one from the link above please ?

I would really appreciate it!

It is just a polite prefix.

It's just an honorific character. It's pronounced 'o' or sometimes 'go' and it doesn't really have a translatable meaning of it's own, it's just a pre-fix that makes things sound softer and nicer. You hear it with things like o-sake (sake) and o-sushi.

Which third one of what from the link? The maeda-en shiki macha?

Wow, that was fast! Thanks for replies.

@Columbine

I meant the first character from the 3 of them. The one on the very top.

So its just a prefix then. Thanks for help guys!
