It's now just a few hours from my heading to the airport. I'm in the mist of packing my stuff, prepping my online services, and doing whatever else I need to to get myself prepared. What started out more of a passing idea seems to have come to fruition. Thanks for the support... and see ya there.

All those who would like to, feel free to use the number in the above post to contact me. I'll have the phone from (JST) June 1st evening to July 1st morning.

A bit nervous, more about the trip to and fro than the trip itself, but I'm sure I'll be fine. I didn't plan very heavily, on purpose, so this ought to be interesting...

Here goes nothing...

not just tokyo - 05-31-2008, 03:49 PM

I would say first and foremost don’t just stay in Tokyo for 1 month. even if it means only 1-2 day trips outta the city you have to do it. Tokyo is not Japan, Tokyo is just a big city. at the very least try to get to Hakone or Izu peninsula or out into east chiba or something.

Good luck and if you have any questions let me know I have lived here 7 years now

As it is a bit late for more tips, I just wanted to ask you good luck and assure you that you will have wicked amounts of fun. I went there when I was 19 too, so I can kinda imagine what you feel now!

Oh just a quick thing, (dunno if someone already said it, but I don't have time to read 8 pages):

If you got the time, try riding the rollercoaster at Tokyo Dome! Isn't too expensive and is hella fun, with a nice view of tokyo

Hey folks. At an internet cafe on Ameyoko in Ueno at the moment. Things are going OK so far, though I have gotten lost a couple of times. This keyboard is a little strange so sorry for any mistakes. Ive been invited by someone I met to a local izakaya tonight with him and his students. I figure Ill go, so that should be fun. Not going to say too much of what has happened so far in the interest of time, because Ill be posting it all when I get back anyway. I will say, though, that I have developed an addiction to meronpan. D:

Anyhow, spending a lot less than I anticipated on, so theres a good chance that if things go well Ill be able to take a trip outside Tokyo as well.

Just thought Id check in while here. See you folks later.

Been a while since I revisited. I know it's late; my trip has been over for a month now. Just been busy, and really don't have time even now to say much, other than that it was great and I'm definitely going back. I'll fill in some of the finer details later, but unfortunately fairly busy right now.

Thanks.

(Sorry for double post)

Going to start writing a general summary of how my trip went in notepad or the like, so I can continue it over time, and then I can post it all at once, since I did promise I would post about it.

PS: Financial situation looking pretty good for this coming year for me. I might be able to go again next year!
