Entering Japan on a student Visa. - 06-19-2008, 08:27 AM

Does anyone know if it's necessary to purchase a return ticket when entering Japan on a student Visa?

I am coming back in August and I am not quite sure if I'll be enrolling in two or three semesters in Jpn..so I don't want to purchase a round trip ticket.

Anyone know?

Thanks.

I entered Japan on a one-way ticket just fine when I was studying abroad there a couple years ago. The Japanese travel agency I went through (IACE) confirmed that it would be okay. I also sent off an e-mail to the Japanese consulate in Chicago just to be sure, and they said since I would be staying long time in Japan under a student visa, round-trip tickets were not required.
