Cool Solar eclipse July 22nd 2009 - 03-05-2009, 07:34 PM

Hello, I will be going to Japan this summer and I found out that a total solar eclipse will occur in July. In Yaksuhima Island the eclipse will last about 4 minutes max. This is great for me, because I'd really like to go to Yakushima, and now I could even see a solar eclipse!

Do you know if it will be very busy and touristy in Yakushima at that time? I know that the Tokara Islands were booked full like years ago, and I'm a little concerned about Yakushima, as I planned to stay there for 3-5 days. Any information is greatly apprecieated.

Do you yourself have any plans for the eclipse this summer?

3-5 days seems like a long time in Yakushima.

I've read that there's quite a lot to see, maybe I remember wrong =/

Anyways, I recently learned that only 4200 visitors are allowed on Yakushima at that time, and the deadline for the lottery was a week ago. Do you know if have any chance of being on Yakushima on 22.7? I already mailed the Yakushima town office.

Summer also tends to be the rainy season, don't be surprised if it rains on July 22nd (or every other day during that week).
