Silly question - 03-14-2009, 07:34 AM

Are there no Subways or Quiznos here ?

Are the Japanese not fans of subs or is it the companies just aren't interested/can't afford the Japanese market.

Ah ok.

Just haven't seen any in my travels, not that I have a hankering for one I was just wondering with all the other chains being here.

Another one

Why aren't the 5 yen coins marked with a 5 ?

They are marked with the kanji for five, but not the Arabic numeral 5. Don't know why, but I suppose there's a reason...

Probably so you don't mistake it for a 50 yen piece

There are plenty of Subways. Sandwiches are popular in Japan.

Plenty of them in Tokyo. I don't see any down my way. If they're in Kyoto or Osaka, I haven't run across them.

Same with Burger King. I want some Burger King in my Kansai. :|

Tokyo has a lot of foreign/import things that you won't find anywhere else in Japan...

There is a BK in West Shinjuku. Ask your front desk how to get to the Island Tower, which is next-door to Shinjuku Hilton. BK is in the basement there.
