JR Pass and overnight trains help required - 03-31-2010, 04:05 PM

Hello guys,

Well I finally got to Japan and almost through my stay. I spent a fair bit of travel time using the JR pass. One thing i didnt know is that you can use it on the overnight trains.

My problem is this reservation seat fee... do JR holders have to pay this?

Here's my plan:

Niseko (Kutchan) to Tokyo

20:52
KUTCHAN
[107 Min]
JR Hakodate Line

22:39
01:03
OSHAMAMBE
[276 Min]
EXP. HAMANASU RESERVE SEAT 880Yen

05:39
05:52
AOMORI
[56 Min]
LTD.EXP TSUGARU 2 RESERVE SEAT 700Yen

06:48
06:55
HACHINOHE
[176 Min]
SHINKANSEN HAYATE 2 RESERVE SEAT 6000Yen

09:51
TOKYO

Now I'm not so bothered about the first two (but would be nice to skip em) its the 6000Yen one that makes me worry. Since this journey is only 3hrs then I font care if I dont have a reserved seat. But that cost alone makes it more expesnisive to travel jus tto arrive in the morning. I could easily stay another night in my current accomodation. However arrive at 10am is better use of the treamining last days.

I'm guessing this is something I need to book in advance and I also guess I need to go to Kuthcnan rails to get the tickets.

Any help would be much appreciated (i leave 2nd april.
