Golden Week - 08-14-2010, 11:42 AM

Hi there,

I've been reading the forum for a while but this is my first post.

We visiting Japan next May and I would like some advice on Golden Week.

We will be flying in to Tokyo on 1st May and I was wondering what goes on in Tokyo/elsewhere during Golden Week. I understand accommodation and transport is pretty busy then so I'd like to book something soon. Where is the place to be during Golden Week or would you recommend visiting different places?

We have one month in Japan and would like to see a lot of the country, thinking about the rail pass but I don't want to rush around too much. Maybe two weeks on JR pass and the other two weeks day trips etc. Are there slower trains or buses that are cheaper to get around with? Any budget airlines?

Looking forward to your advice & suggestions.

Thanks!

You had better avoid it for the Golden Week if possible.
Hotels become usually more expensive than a rate.
The road is congested very much.
The vehicle occupacy of the railroad is higher than 100%.
Only the business area becomes the ghost town alone.
