Nearly time!! Rail/Bus advice please? - 08-30-2011, 09:05 PM

Hi all.

Thank you for all the helpful replies in my previous thread

I have booked all my accomodation now and made a rough plan.

I have been trying for the past few months to sort out transport but I just can't do it! I've of course been looking into the JR Pass, but it's hard to know whether I need it or not as I can't find a helpful train times/costs website.

I've only found this site

Hyperdia | 乗換案内 路線検索 時刻表 ゴルフ場 旅費精算 通勤費なら

Anyone know any other sites?

Olly

What do you need to know to make your decision? What specifically are you going to do while in Japan?

Last time I used it, the 28,300 yen cost was for 74,500 yen worth of rides. Next time I'll use one for 45,100 yen, it will be for, at least, 152,750 yen worth of rides....

If you're not leaving a major city you'll be in, then I'd opt against it....

I second this line of thinking.

Hyperdia is a great site to give you the options you need. All you have to do is plug in the stations you want to depart and arrive at and the times, and it gives you all the options available. If you don't know what the stations are, you can use Free Worldwide Travel Guides - Wikitravel or japan-guide.com - Japan Travel and Living Guide and they will give you information on "getting there"....
