Swim First, Sink Later - 01-22-2010, 05:40 AM

Hey All,

I'm a new poster and the Japan visitation will soon begin.

I'm leaving Monday afternoon to Osaka for 4 days. From there, I'll be spending 6 days in Japan. And then 2 more days in Osaka.

I have a few points of interested I'm hoping to see, but the majority of my trip is going to be serendipitous exploration. No set path, roll of the dice.

… I might be getting a bit lost. Eheh…

Anyway, got my hotels booked (save for my last two days - one day really, as the day after I'll be on a plane home). I have my Rail Pass, books in tow, camera, battery charger, and netbook... maybe some clothes.

I know some Japanese (been studying for 10 years - off and on, with many plateaus), but this is my sink or swim mission. Practice in the native land of 日本語. Really, I just expect to have fun and get rather confused.

Wish me luck! Or if you're local, PM me and we'll get a beer.

Good Night!

Some rather strange advice. Although of course it makes sense, it's just that bringing it up is a little random.

Yes, definitely- you know Osaka actually is in Japan, right? ;-)

I'm guessing that when you said "Japan", you meant Tokyo. Have a great time.

Oh man! I'm gonna get really lost now. XD Yes, I did mean Tokyo. Funny how you feel the words, but the sight of them concocts an illusion.

And thank you.

True love doesnt care about time!

Anyhooooow, have good one there! And dont forget to check the faces of employees in restaurants or shops when you walk up to them. They will go like:
"ZOMG! I NEED TO TALK ENGLISH" and many black out :P Many of them tried to answer in English to them, eventhough I spoke Japanese to them xD hahahaha

Make loooooooooooooots of pictures!

Quick Update: I fly out at 1:20 PM from Sea-Tac to Seoul, then Seoul to Osaka (Kensai). 12 hours of flight time. Good day!

Had my three day stay in Osaka - where the culture shock and home sickness wave crested and rolled back.

Upon arriving in Tokyo, I started having a blast. I got over my fear of restaurants and ordering food - which might account for why I was so tired to begin with. Fallen in love with this city and it's transit system. Harajuku, Nakano, Asakusa, and Ueno or amazing. Akihabara, Ginza are... helpful, but not for me.

I'll be heading back to Osaka for more takoyaki and a double take in a few days.

Post pictures in a bit.
