Actually, I hated gari (pickled ginger). You know, it comes with the sushi and stuff. Oh, and miso shiru (Miso soup).

To me, the gari and miso shiru kinda tasted how I imagine a lemon Pledge cleaning wipe would taste. xDD But my tastes have changed over the years. I used to hate peanut butter years ago but now I like it. So maybe in a few years I'll like the gari and miso shiru? xD

When I first saw konnyaku years ago I thought it looked like something that definitely should not be a food. However, the taste is so mild and inoffensive that I don't mind it.

I am actually allergic to ginger (nothing horrible, just nausea, vomiting, and hives - I won`t die from it, just be very unhappy for a day or two after) - so beyond hate I have this deep ingrained reaction of panic and revulsion to it`s taste.
Pickling takes out a lot of the stuff in it that triggers a bad reaction so I can live through things that have that in it like takoyaki, but I always ask for things without.

The absolutely most horrible thing I have ever eaten in Japan was "American Spaghetti" - served at cats-cafe about 10 years ago. I have never been so sure I was going to gag. It may not be "Japanese" in terms of the origin of the things in it, but it was certainly not "American".

It was sort of like they tried to combine anything "American" they could come up with to make this horrid wretch inducing frankenstein dish. It was a pizza crust on the bottom, ketchup and mayo sauce spaghetti with chunks of fried chicken and french fries mixed in, a hot dog complete with mustard (but not real mustard, karashi mustard) on the top, and a big dollop of corn cream soup as a topping. I`m sure there are other horrors I blocked from memory.

I had never and have never since encountered anything so awful. It was as if they took a bunch of leftovers and threw them onto this plate and served it as a dish.

ETA;
I used to hate konnyaku. In the high school dorm I stayed in, once a week they would have "konnyaku steak" night, which was basically just grilled konnyaku with a squirt of worcestershire sauce. It was pretty pathetic. Now in oden and the like, I really enjoy it.
