I'd say it's because seafood isn't part of the typical American diet; Americans mostly stick to red meat, potatoes, and... uhh... yeah, I honestly don't know much about a typical American diet since I've never actually spent time in the heart of America, or been surrounded by genuine 'Americans' (basically all of my friends are immigrants, or the offspring of immigrants). The point is, aside from whatever's served at Red Lobster or whatever those fastfood seafood buffet places are called, Americans aren't exposed to much fish or food that was formerly sealife.

Besides that, some people (especially those who've lived surrounded by one particular race or culture their entire lives) are just close-minded towards new things.

Yeah, most Americans (Me being one myself) aren't too interested in seafood (I just <3 it). Most people are turned off after hearing that sushi is raw fish or that fugu is poisonus.

I love sushi! But living in England, you don't get much sushi here, the only ones you get are the ones in supermarkets and cost, like, £10 for 8 Sushi... total rip off so I just eat it ocassionally.
